Resilience Project: For this project I started out not knowing what I wanted to do, until I thought it would be cool to do something with suring. I decided that in surfing you do need to have a lot of resilience, but I didn’t really wanna do it about myself. So, I decided to do it about Bethany Hamilton and her resilience when it came to losing an arm to a shark attack to becoming a pro surfer. I thought it would be really cool and interesting to do a collage with pictures of her surfing, as well as some information about how she used resilience. During this project I learned a lot more about Bethany Hamilton, her shark attack and what the meaning of resilience is. I thought this was a pretty cool project, I just had a really hard time figuring out what I wanted to do it about, once I did I didn’t really have a lot of time to finish and make it really good. What I learned about Bethany Hamilton is that she was only 13 years old when she was attacked by a shark and lost her arm. I learned that she had to be resilient in overcoming her emotions that were just up and down, and decide if she wanted to continue surfing or quit. I researched Bethany Hamilton and her shark attack for my project, I initially came up with this idea because I had seen the movie soul surfer which is a movie based off of Bethany and her shark attack. I created a collage for this project which I think could have been better, if I used my time wisely. For me personally this project was hard because I couldn’t figure out what I wanted to do and just trying to figure that out I wasted a lot of time. Overall I think this project was very interesting, if I did this project again I would have changed a few things like using my time better, not wasting my time in class even after I figured out what I was going to do. The most important personal lesson I learned was that I procrastinate until the last minute then do the project after it was already due and I don’t work very hard on it. For the next project in this class I am going to try to work a lot harder and start when I get the chance instead of wasting my time. The most important social lesson I learned was that I should ask for help when I need it instead of just trying to figure it out on my own, I really need to advocate for myself the rest of this semester and next year. I think I grew during this project because I got a way better understanding of what resilience is and how it can be used.
